10 Questions to Help You Plan Your Packaging Project
At Impak, we provide a wide range of packaging products, from shopping bags to jewelry tags, and every single one of them is fully customizable. That means our customers literally have an infinite number of options to choose from.
So how do you narrow down the choices? There are a number of questions we often use to help customers determine exactly what they need.
1. What are your goals?
What brand image do you want to convey? Is it more important for you to have a low price, or a low environmental impact? Such goals and priorities will help us start focusing in on the best options for your company.
2. How big does the packaging need to be?
In other words, how big is the item (or items) that will be going in the package? With shopping bags or gift boxes, you may not know exactly what the customer is going to buy. But you can know which items you carry are the most popular, or the largest product you might consider putting in the packaging. The size of the items will help determine the dimensions of the bag, box, or mailer you need.
3. How much weight will it be carrying?
Besides the dimensions, you need to know roughly how heavy the items are. The weight determines how strong the packaging materials need to be, such as the board weight needed for the bottom of a paper bag.
4. What quantity is needed?
Minimum order quantities start at 1,000 units, but can vary depending on the type of product and its specifications. Higher quantities result in a lower per-unit price.
5. Where will it be shipped to?
The location influences shipping costs and transit times, and may impact where the packaging will be manufactured or stored. Our logistics services and coast-to-coast warehouses can help reduce your shipping and inventory management costs.
6. When do you need it by?
Your timeline can also influence your manufacturing and shipping options. Imported products, for example, may require a longer lead time than our American-made options.
7. What types of artwork will you use?
There are many options, from different types of printing processes to embossing, debossing, and foil stamping. The options vary depending on the type of project and the materials used.
8. Who will create the artwork?
Your artist or ours? Our creative team is available if needed to produce a design that will enhance the look of your brand. Or, we can collaborate with your own designers to adapt existing artwork for a 3D package design.
9. Do you have any examples or samples to use as inspiration?
We don’t expect you to know everything, and be able to name off the exact type of fabric you want for your cosmetic bag or the type of drawstring that would be perfect for your custom pouch. And we’re happy to provide samples to look through or to mock up prototypes. But if you see something you particularly like, or that’s similar to what you have in mind, bring it to us so we can identify it and perhaps create something similar for your brand.
10. What is your budget?
The sky’s the limit as far as what we can create, but of course budget plays a factor in which options can be on the table. Having a target price per unit can help direct the conversation to the materials and features that will work best for you.
