Valentine’s Day Shopping is in the Bag

A diamond is forever… actually, you know what is forever? Shopping bags.

I still have the bag that contained a bracelet my husband gave me for an anniversary two years ago. It’s a really cool bag and the perfect size to hold all those rewards cards, gift certificates, and business cards that I don’t want to carry in my wallet every day.

Why did I keep the bag? Because I like the feel of quality paper products. I like to sniff new bags. (Hey, you know you’ve done it.) I appreciate good materials, whether they are used to build a house, a sweater or a bag.

Valentine’s Day is this Sunday. Valentine’s Day is the one gift giving day that is all about the bag. If you show up on Valentine’s Day holding a drugstore plastic bag, your significant other will feel insignificant. Nothing says “I almost forgot this occasion” like a cheap bag.

When you buy products and they get thrown in a sad white plastic bag with no love, the experience is different than going to a store where your product is comforted by warm, happy, tissue paper and put in a bag you want to keep forever. The tissue paper. It’s important. Why? Because it’s like giving your purchase a hug and a warm coat, then putting it in a chauffeur driven car. When you just throw it in a flimsy plastic bag, it’s like kidnapping your product. No love. And your purchase never gets a second chance to make a first impression.

So make sure you always put your best bag forward on Valentine’s Day and every day.

Although Valentine’s Day is traditionally about romantic love, it can also be a day for love in general. Like putting the love in your job. Or adding a little love to your commute, let someone pull out in front of you. Or adding love to a meal you make.

In honor of St. Valentine and his day of glory, here are 10 companies that we love the way they put love in their products...and their packaging!
