Impak in Action
We appreciate all the phone calls and emails during and after Hurricane Harvey. The Impak office building is three hours away from the devastation, so our company was spared, but our fellow Texans weren’t as lucky. Many homes and businesses are still without power.
In some areas of Houston, a 20-minute drive is now 2 hours. Houston is America’s fourth largest city and even people with homes intact face long traffic delays as roads are still closed. Corpus Christi, Beaumont, and Port Arthur continue their recovery as well. Holiday Beach, located just north of Rockport, was one of the hardest hit areas, with boats still being removed from lawns as a result of the storm surge that hit weeks ago.
To support those in Texas affected, our Impak team volunteered at the Salvation Army in the week after the hurricane. We collected donations of food, diapers, formula, clothing, batteries, and shoes at our office and delivered them to local Dallas shelters that housed Houston evacuees. Impak agreed to match all employee donations to the Salvation Army, who continues to aid many of the displaced Houstonians.
Through all the devastation the one positive was seeing all the people, businesses and the community as a whole come together during a time of need. Senior Project Manager, Audrey Sherrill, says this about the experience: “I was touched and moved into action by the pure empathy that poured out during this tragedy. Eric's genuine concern and ability to stop and pause, to reflect on what is MOST important, that is what enables all of us to keep perspective and balance as we carry out our professional and personal lives.”
In addition to he Salvation Army, we are fortunate to have organizations continue to assist locally in Texas such as Samaratan’s Purse, AllHands, Red Cross, FEMA, Portlight, Americares, Mennonite Disaster Relief, and Global Giving.
