Rachel Bentley and Carly Nance founded The Citizenry in 2014 in Dallas, Texas. Friends since college, they set out to build a company celebrating artisans, designers, and dreamers from wide ranging cultures and continents. 

Rachel Bentley says their unique business model is designed to “build long-term, sustainable partnerships with our artisan partners so that as we grow, they do as well.” Citizenry introduces a new collection each season inspired by and crafted in a different corner of the globe. At the same time, they continue to offer staples from each one of their established country collections – lumbar pillows from Mexico, butterfly chairs from Argentina, ceramics from Ireland, baskets from Uganda, rugs from Peru and more.

Bentley and Nance travel around the globe discovering time-tested craftsmanship and bring exclusive offerings to the modern home. 

“Our goal is to inspire people when they shop with The Citizenry. Whether it be discovering a new corner of the globe or learning about a new craft technique, we want our customers to be inspired by the whole process,” says Bentley. “We believe our collections are only as beautiful as the environments they spring from.”

Every dollar spent supports fair wages, safe working environments, and a direct investment into artisan entrepreneurs. Ten percent of proceeds are directed back into artisan communities through Entrepreneur Development Grants, grants that help our partners take their businesses to new places.
